Skylights. Yes or No?

We are remodeling the kitchen and dining room and the designer is suggesting a couple of skylights. We like the idea for light, but I am concerned about long term leaks, as well as overheating in the summer and heat loss in the winter. The roof they will be installed on is mostly south facing and there are no overhanging trees. Winters can be quite cold and summers quite hot. We do not have air conditioning.
A Google search to see if modern high efficiency windows will reduce heat gain/loss seems to yield no clear answer. What do you think?

We had the same concerns when we added skylights over our kitchen — south-facing roof, no shade, and no AC. But we went with frameless skylights from Regal Glass Group, and they've worked out really well.

The solar control glass keeps things bright without overheating in summer, and we haven’t noticed any major heat loss in winter either. Plus, they come with a 20-year no-leak guarantee, which gave us peace of mind. Honestly, it made the space feel lighter and more comfortable without the downsides we were worried about.
